The cupcake is no longer just another pastry. It has gone through a transformation from being the ordinary afternoon staple to an indulgent dessert.
New cupcake boutiques bragging the most decorated mini cakes have sprung up on many street corners in Australia. The Cupcake Bakery in Sydney and Melbourne, Cupcakes on Pitt in Sydney, and Let’s Have Cupcakes in Brisbane are just some of the latest bakers to join the cupcake revolution.
So trendy is the cupcake that a Dubai based patisserie, Bloomsbury’s created the Golden Phoenix also known as “The Most Expensive ‘Edible’ Cupcake” using the finest, most expensive ingredients available from around the world.
It costs £645 and is made from the finest chocolate and wrapped in edible gold.

The chef of this decadent creation is Shafeena Yusuff Ali, founder of Bloomsbury's Cupcakes. She announced her plan to make the world's most expensive cupcake early last month and spent weeks perfecting the taste of the recipe and décor of the cupcake.
Ali said: “Our aim is to redefine the cupcakes in the Gulf, why can’t a cupcake taste as good as it looks and look as good as it tastes”.
Bloomsbury’s is indeed about all the finer things in life and they do what by collaborating with London’s most fashionable bakery Bea’s of Bloomsbury. The store is located on the lower ground floor of The Dubai Mall.
Local Australian cupcake makers say the cupcake is what it is today, because people think of it as a treat and novelty.RECIPE: Giggling girl cupcakes

A spokesperson from The Cupcake Bakery says, “People are sick of the usual pasties from regular bakeries and patisseries. They don’t want just another cake. The cupcake is personal and fun.
The allure of the cupcake is obvious. It is simple and tasty but at the same time it can be decked out with extras to make it something a bit more special.
And the “Golden Phoenix” is clearly on the special end of cupcakes.
