Refried beans are cooked twice
It would make sense that refried beans were refried, right? Actually the name 'refried' originates is a translation mix-up. In Spanish the prefix 're' means 'well' or 'very', so a literal translation of 'frijoles refritos' is 'well-fried beans'.
