Bagged salad

Buying salad leaves certainly adds interest to your five a day. However, you’ll pay a significant price for that pleasure. Not only are the bags pumped full of a chemical to keep them fresh, as soon as you open the bag, the chemical is released and the leaves wilt fast. Salad leaves are notoriously easy to grow, so save your cash and spice up your salads by growing your own.

yes, but you don't need lettuce to make a salad. try winter vegetables, such as fennel or baby spinach, in place of iceberg. use roasted pumpkin or sweet potato in place of tomatoes. use apples in place of cucumber [tasmanian apples are LOVELY]. just use what's in season and don't think of a salad as having to have lettuce, cucumber and tomato.

I don't eat salad so it is not issue. I do eat fruit, and nuts which need no preparation. I buy packaged pre-cut vegetables because the extra money spent saves me a lot of time in which I can do things that interest me more than preparing food.
