Green Wine

Environmentally friendly wines (also eco-friendly, nature-friendly and green wines) refer to wines that have been made according to guidelines and policies claimed to inflict minimal or no harm on the environment. Certification standards and processes still vary from one country to another.

If you refer to my blog from two weeks ago about organic and biodynamic wines, these companies are already doing their part, both in the vineyards and in the winery, to produce wines with minimal interference to the environment.

Being environmentally friendly extends beyond the actual wine, it also includes other factors that a company can adopt to become green.

·         Organic winemaking practices

·         Biodynamic winemaking practices

·         Environmental packaging – light weight glass

·         Environmental transport and shipping – transporting bulk wine to the country of destination to be bottled

·         Environmental infrastructure – solar power, water recycling plant

It’s all about the entire process which begins before the grapes have been harvested and ends with the final consumption of the wine, and then the disposal and recycling of the wine packaging.

Wines of the Week:

  • Cullen – 2010 Sauvignon Blanc Semillon Chardonnay – Margaret River - Biodynamic
  • Taylors – 2008 80 Acres Cabernet Shiraz Merlot – Clare Valley – 100% Carbon Neutral

Have a great weekend.

Cheers

Scott
