Princess Beatrice plans to auction off THAT Royal Wedding hat

While the Royal Wedding was filled with everything from fashion forward frocks to unforgivable faux pas, few have copped the amount of slack that Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie have.

Beatrice wore a dusty pink Valentino Couture creation while her younger sister Euginie opted for a Vivienne Westwood ensemble. But it was Beatrice’s bizarre hat that turned heads and made headlines.

The extraordinary choice of millinery has been likened to everything from a giant pretzel to a toilet seat, with bloggers around the world commentating on the controversial Philip Treacy creation.

But soon, the hat could be yours.

"She's putting it up on eBay to auction it for UNICEF and for Children in Crisis," Beatrice's mother, Duchess Sarah Ferguson, announced this week during an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Although many of the hat-haters will correlate the sale with the amount of negative feedback the Princess has received, Beatrice has adamantly defended the headpiece.

“I think it’s wonderful that it’s had a reaction, it is just a hat after all, and now it has got its own Facebook page and so many fans”, said the Princess in a recent interview with Grazia.

“It’s an incredible response to that hat really, I’m glad it provoked so much conversation”, she continued.

The Facebook page Princess Beatrice's Hat boasts over 5,000 ‘likes’ and many will be excited at the prospect of owning one of the most talked about fashion pieces since Lady Gaga’s meat dress.

However the Facebook page entitled Princess Beatrice’s Ridiculous Royal Wedding Hat, has accumulated almost 140,000 fans so far.

Philip Treacy designed headwear for other Royal Wedding guests including Victoria Backham, Tara Palmer-Tomkinson and Zara Phillips, and has been quoted saying that Beatrice and Eugine looked ‘gorgeous and beautiful’ at their first cousins wedding.

Treacy told HollywoodLife.com: "My inspiration was beauty and elegance; it's a 21st century royal wedding.

"They didn't tell me what they wanted because I've known them for a long time and I wanted them to look gorgeous and beautiful. They trusted me to make them. Gorgeous and beautiful can be open to interpretation... I thought they looked gorgeous and beautiful. But no one is crying if anyone didn't."

Treacy’s hats have been worn by celebrities from Lady Gaga to Sarah-Jessica Parker, and typically cost over $1000.
