'The Carrie Diaries', set to air in January 2013, was developed by Gossip Girl producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage.

The series is set in 1984 when the young Carrie Bradshaw is in her final year of high school.

You may recognise AnnaSophia Robb, the teenage Carrie, from her role alongside Johnny Depp as Violet Beauregarde in 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'.

Fashionistas around the world are literally salivating in anticipation to see what fabulous clothes will star in the series. Expect to see a spike in eighties trends - publicity shot and leaked stills show Carrie in puffball skirts, sequins and red patent leather pumps.

Teenager Stefania Owen, who played Keri Russell's daughter in TV comedy 'Running Wilde', plays Carrie's rebellious 14-year-old sister Dorritt. Carrie, Dorritt, and their younger sister Missy are being raised by their father, Tom, to be played by Matt Letscher, after the death of their mother.

As in 'Sex and the City', Carrie's friends play a major role in the series. Ellen Wong (Scott Pilgrim vs the World) will play Jill Thompson, Carrie's best friend at high school, while Katie Findlay (The Killing) stars as Carrie's oldest friend, Maggie Landers. Newcomer Brendan Dooling will play Walt, Carrie's gay offsider.

We can expect to meet a young Samantha Jones, with rumours hinting that she helps 16-year-old Carrie out of a pickle in Manhattan.

Carrie's love interest, 'brooding heartthrob' Sebastian Kydd, will be played by Austin Butler.

Chloe Bridges, the actress set to play Carrie's nemesis Donna LaDonna (what fun!), has had bit parts in 'New Girl' and '90210'.

Carrie wins a place at Brown University, a prestigious Ivy League institution.
