Victoria’s Secret has apologised for featuring a Native American-themed costume at its annual fashion show last Thursday (08.11.12), and will remove the costume from its TV broadcast.

The costume – worn by Causasian model Karlie Kloss – included feather headdress, a fringed skirt and turquoise jewellery.

A blogger for the Native Appropriations website criticised the Thanksgiving-inspired costume and wrote, “This isn't ‘fun’, this isn't a ‘fantasy’ character. This is about our cultures, our bodies, and our lives. Native people demand and deserve far more respect than this.”

The lingerie giant responded to the criticism on Saturday and apologised via their Facebook and Twitter with the following statement, “We are sorry that the Native American headdress replica used in our recent fashion show has upset individuals. We sincerely apologize as we absolutely had no intention to offend anyone. Out of respect, we will not be including the outfit in any broadcast, marketing materials nor in any other way.”

The 20-year-old model also issued a personal apology from her Twitter account and said, “I am deeply sorry if what I wore during the VS Show offended anyone. I support VS's decision to remove the outfit from the broadcast.”

Just last week (04.11.12), No Doubt were forced to pull the music video for their song ‘Looking Hot’ after complaints from the Native American community. The ‘Cowboys and Indians’-themed clip featured the band’s lead singer Gwen Stefani dressed up as a Native American princess.
