Chris Brown and Rihanna - who split up in February 2009 after Rihanna was hospitalised following an assault by Brown - hugged when Rihanna won Video of the Year at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards at the Staples Center.

Brown also picked up two awards including Best Male Video - a category for which his rival Drake was also nominated - and Best Choreography for 'Turn Up The Music'.

The 24-year-old singer from Barbados recently confessed to still having feelings for Brown and said she found it hard to act normally around him whenever they saw each other.

She said, "We went to a mutual friend's party on a yacht.

"It's awkward because I still love him. My stomach drops and I have to maintain this poker face and not let it get to the outer part of me.

"I have to maintain that and suppress it and interpret that and understand that is not going to go away. That is peaceful. When you don't understand those feelings you can make a lot of mistakes."

The public display of affection between Brown and Rihanna was reportedly not taken very well by Brown's current girlfriend Karrueche Tran. A source told Us Weekly, "She felt the kiss was a total slap in the face.

"[Karrueche] and Rihanna really hate one another and Chris ultimately just does what he wants. Seeing him with Rihanna at such a public event made her very angry."
