Fashion Week: Day One

The day - or should I say week has finally arrived. FASHION WEEK! Mercedes Benz Fashion Week is being held in Sydney for the annual Spring/Summer collection from some of Australia's finest designers.

So this weekend it was all about - WHAT TO WEAR!

Last night I could barely sleep, I had my whole wardrobe taunting me - yes that's right my cupboard is possessed. But I woke up this morning bright, or was that the light-bulb going off in my head. I had my outfit. Minkpink crop tee, paired with my fluoro ASOS skirt, accessorised with Alexander Wang bag, various bracelets and Recreational Boutique initial ring (See below for picture).

I also had the privileged of having a quick catch up with Miss Unkon Creative Visionary, Courtney Meyer:

1. How many fashion weeks have you been a part of?

This will be our fourth show - Our first was 2009 in the New Gen and this will be our third stand alone!

2. What’s the Miss Unkon vision for this year’s show?
The Life Between reflects moments in time that are chance happenings, capturing a moment where amongst oddities, boundaries are redefined and beauty is discovered within disorder. It is a journey through a ‘wonderland of dreams’, with the Miss Unkon woman who is youthful, has a purpose and exudes creativity. Unafraid of venturing into unchartered territories, the Miss Unkon woman has a clear idea of who she wants to be. The collection inspires the possibilities of life, the wonderment, colour and passion in the everyday exploration, begging the question, what else is possible?

3.What inspired you for this show?

I have always seen life beyond and in between the actual object. I see the colours and the shapes and the light that makes up the landscape or streets that we walk around or sometimes simply drive through. I wanted to give the accoutrements to our life a prominence as I see so much beauty in between.

4. Where do you draw inspiration from?

My inspiration generally comes from my experiences. A visit to my family property in the country, a dinner out with friends, a walk through the city on a rainy Saturday afternoon all have provided me with inspiration. Participating and observing life and the diversity amongst us is truly inspiring.

5. What’s your favourite part of fashion week?

I love when the lights dim and the music starts and the first model starts to walk out onto the catwalk, there is nothing more I can do at that stage and I know that we have all done our best. My heart races and it is an amazing feeling. I also love catching up with all the other designers and celebrating everyones achievements and hard work. It is an amazing week and every year it just gets more fun. I feel so blessed to be a part of it and to do what I love doing every day.

6. What look is your favourite?

It's hard to say but I am really excited for the look that is closing the show. The juxtaposition of colours encapsulated what I was trying to create for this Spring/Summer collection and paid homage to the vibrancy of the beauty in the everyday happenings.

7. What gets you through prepping for fashion week?

I eat really well, lots of fresh organic fruit and veggies and heaps of water. There are lots of late nights so making sure I am nurturing my body from the inside out ensures my mind is clear and I feel energised.

8. What’s in your “fashion week survival kit”:

Lots of water, my iPhone, some hydrating mist and my amazing team by my side
