Caring for an ageing pet
Dr. Harry says: Animals seem to know something we don’t – the art of growing old gracefully. But there are signs that can spell trouble: weight loss, excess water drinking, loss of appetite, unexplainable lumps, stiffness in gait and trouble getting up when they have been lying down. We can help the most common problem – osteoarthritis. Avoid obesity because it strains the skeleton. Make sure your pet is warm and rugged up against the cold. Supplement the diet with natural remedies, such as glucosamine – available as Joint Guard and Sashas Blend – as well as omega-3 and -6 fatty acids. Simply snip the top off a fish oil capsule and sprinkle it on your pet’s food. Have ageing pets (over 10 years old) vet-checked every six months.
