How To Groom Dogs

All dogs shed hair, even the so-called non-shedding breeds so here is how to maintain it.

Long-haired dogs

For breeds with a double coat, it’s particularly a problem in the spring and autumn.

Short-haired dogs

Short-haired dogs shed all the time and, if your dog spends any time inside, the need to vacuum is ever present. But there are tools that will help.

The FURminator deShedding tool works marvellously to strip away dense hair close to the body, which is usually the problem stuff. Regular grooming with a KONG ZoomGroom rubber grooming brush and a slicker brush helps, as does a seasonal haircut for long-haired dogs. Believe it or not, you can even vacuum your pooch, using a special attachment from Dyson. Getting hair off furniture is easier if you wear rubber gloves. Or, use lint rollers with disposable sticky sheets – they work well on clothing, too. For small areas, masking tape is a simple and cheap solution.
