Spring allergies are in full swing and dor many that means the dreaded sneezes, sniffles and itchy eyes. This is the season when pollen (the dust-like, male reproductive part of a plant) is released into the air. If you’re susceptible to allergies, your immune system regards the pollen as harmful. This then triggers the release of chemicals such as histamines, which cause your eyes to water and nose to leak. Trees are usually the first to cause commotion, then grasses take over in late spring. Add to the mix household mould, dust mites – those microscopic animals that can cause irritation and itching – and animal dander (that’s a nice word for dead skin), and it can make you feel pretty uncomfortable. But there’s no need for you to endure symptoms this season – just follow these tips.
