It's time to say goodbye to afternoon slumps and hello to more energy with these easy and natural energy boosting alternatives.

1. Get some sun

Sneak outside for 20 minutes and soak up the vitamin D from the sun. The sunshine will elevate your energy levels immediately and it's great to get some fresh air into your lungs after sitting in a stuffy office all day.

2. Drink a green tea

Green tea has half the amount of caffeine than coffee, so if you suffer from afternoon tiredness go get yourself a cuppa.

3. Stand up

Are you slumped over at your computer right now? Perk up by standing up. Go on give it a go.

4. Blink more often

Next time you’re fighting off the urge to doze start blinking about 10-20 times per minute. Every blink will give your brain a mini holiday.

5. Socialise with energized friends

Have you ever noticed that the minute you catch up with a bubbly friend you immediately feel better and energised? These friends help uplift and revitalise you. Happiness is truly contagious.

6. Take a deep breath

Learning how to inhale and exhale correctly can do wonders for your energy levels. Next time you need a pick-me-up sit up straight, close your eyes and inhale for three seconds and exhale for three seconds, repeating a few times. Give it a go!

7. Sit up straight

Ever wondered why your teacher at school always told you to sit up straight? Well, it's because shifting your posture will give you an immediate energy boost. When your back is bent out of shape you restrict blood flow to your brain.

8. Eat an apple

We all turn to sugar for that quick energy boost in the afternoons. If you are peckish eat an apple (not chocolate), as it’s full of vitamin c, complex carbohydrates and fiber that will stabilise you energy levels.

9. Drink some water

The most common cause of fatigue is dehydration so if you are feeling low have a few sips or a glass of water. Make sure you keep hydrating all day as this will keep your energy levels high.

10. Go for a walk or run

You may be feeling tired but get up, put those workout clothes on and get moving. After five minutes you should be feeling more energised and after an hour you should be feeling great.
