if you're completely dense, buy a tape measure with markings for both units of measurement.

Hey mate, you're on the AUSTRALIAN Yahoo Lifestyle site, that's why everything is in metric.

It would be nice to have the measurements in both metric and standard formats. The local lumber yard does not list their materials in metric sizes. If I ask for 45x90mm wooden planks, I'm going to just get weird looks. If I ask for a 2x4, they know what I'm talking about. To make things more difficult, the metric units are an actual measurement , and if you convert that to standard, you get 1-3/4x3-1/2, which is the real size of a 2x4, but adds another layer of translation. I am an engineer by profession (woodworking is a hobby) and I can convert US to metric, but I have to stop and think about it or grab a calculator. It is annoying. Also, most documentation I deal with regarding material specifications and such will have both measurements, so I was a bit surprised to see metric only in this article. BTW, Bob, I'm not sure you made your point or that of the people you were arguing against. Might be best to leave these discussions to trained professionals.

no matter what project you are doing you ALWAYS have to do math!! I didn't have a problem figuring this out....you just have to take a little bit more time and patients :)
