Judith recently donated a beautiful rug at a fund raising event in Queensland. The pattern was from Better Homes and Gardens!

Judith Hobbs is a member of a garden group called The Perennial Poppies. This beautiful rug was the perfect gift for one of their members, Jo,whose house had been destroyed by fire in Noni Hazlehurst's stamping ground near Mount Tambourine.

Judith's niece Jennifer Stackhouse writes, "I started knitting these rugs two years ago doing one for myself, then one for my mother and then one for my daughter Eleanor. My mother was keen to help me by knitting some squares so we could also finish one for my sister as a birthday present.Mum is actually hopeless at knitting - I don't think she ended up finishing a single square!"

"Then my aunt, Judith Hobbs thought it would be fun to get involved and sent in for the pattern as mine was getting a little worn.Judith is very creative and she created some fabulous squares using homespun wool from her own sheep plus all those bright feathery yarns so popular now."

"With one rug finished (I had the job of sewing up the squares and doing the border) Judith was keen to start another. When the fire occurred she thought creating a new family heirloom for her friend would be a wonderful gesture. The knitting project just grew and grew from that."

Jo is now living in a little mud-brick cabin on her property. Although fire sadly claimed the main house and all her possessions, the cabins that cater to visitors and tourists were saved. If you would like to knit for others consider a donation to your local nursing home or shelter. Wrap With Love is an organisation of volunteers who knit, crochet and sew sqaures together into wraps to distribute across Australia and around the world. They always need help - even a few squares or leftover wool will be put to good use!More about Wrap With LoveMore Better Homes and Gardens knitting patternsHappy knitting!
