You'll find all the materials to produce your own urn and plinth at major hardware stores.
You'll need
One 60cm square cement paver
One 45 x 45cm concrete pavers
Two 30 30cm concrete pavers
Four 20 x 20 x 40cm Besser blocks
Liquid Nails adhesive
Dulux Sealer Binder
Sikaflex
Megatreat 2000 Liquid Sandstone paint
A lightweight plastic planter bowl
Here's how
Step 1 Set a 60cm square cement paver into the ground, and set two smaller pavers on top using Liquid Nails adhesive.
Step 2 Centre two Besser blocks on top of the paver base and cement in place. Position the next two Besser blocks on top so they sit at right angles to the blocks below.
Step 3 Top with one 45cm square paver and two 30cm pavers. If, after gluing all the layers together, you have any gaps bigger than 3mm, fill these with Sikaflex.
Step 4 For the container at the top, select a lightweight plastic planter bowl. Apply a coat of sealer to the whole structure. Sand the plastic planter bowl and apply a coat of the sealer to it, making sure you cover the top few centimetres of the inner rim.
Step 5 The final painting stage! Apply two coats of Megatreat to both the base and the plastic container using a strong brush. When painting the base, you may find it easier to apply Megatreat with a small trowel.
Tips
- Shallow containers, such as this one, are ideal for growing bulbs such as mini-daffodils, bluebells and freesias; or annuals such as pansies for autumn and winter, or nemesia for spring and petunias for summer.
