Hosted by Johanna Griggs and 'Fast' Ed, the team from the Better Homes and Gardens Radio Show offers great advice each week covering everything from food, gardening, decorating and craft to DIY, pets and a horde of other fascinating topics. It's the perfect accompaniment to all the inspiring ideas on the Better Homes and Gardens TV Show and in the magazine.

Johanna Griggs

Johanna Griggs is an Australian household name. The popular host of Better Homes and Gardens, Johanna recently returned from the Beijing Olympics where she was one of the hosts of the Seven Network's telecast of the event.

Johanna is a familiar face to many Australians from her work as a host of the Seven coverage of various sporting events, including the Australian Open, the Adidas International, the Melbourne Racing Carnival and the World Gymnastics. In 2001, Johanna was part of the Sunday morning panel show 'Sportsworld' and she also hosted 'Auction Squad'.

Johanna has worked as a presenter on both free-to-air television and Foxtel. Prior to her move to television, she represented Australia in swimming, winning Bronze for the 100m backstroke at the Auckland Commonwealth Games in 1990.

Fast' Ed

Better Homes and Gardens 'Fast' Ed Halmagyi's main desire is to show people how quick and easy it is to cook good food.

'I want to demystify restaurant food. To me, restaurants and the whole dining experience are all about entertainment. Food is a prop - designed to bring life to conversations, stories and the occasional arguments that occur around a dining table,' he says.

Ed started cooking at the age of 15, he had a weekend job as a kitchen hand in a local bistro, when the chef walked out during Sunday lunch.

'The owner told me to start cooking, which I did - probably not very well, but somehow we got through.'

Since then, Ed's pursued a varied career, studying Arts/Law at the University of Sydney, working on a community development project in the Solomon Islands, learning the pastry trade at Bennelong at the Sydney Opera House, and cheffing at several of Sydney's leading restaurants, including Rockpool, Gotham, and Fuel.

After a stint at the prestigious Wickaninnish Inn on Vancouver Island, Ed returned to Sydney and took up several head chef roles before deciding to devote himself to his media career, which has better hours for his main role as husband to Leah and father to Luca and Finn.

Rob Palmer

Better Homes and Gardens' DIY and trade tips presenter Rob started in the industry as a nine year old working at his dad's company during school holidays. After he left school, he continued the job, but for better pay.

While working as a carpenter in 2000, Rob was approached to be a presenter on a lifestyle program for Channel 10, a gig that lasted a year.

This led to an ongoing position on Better Homes and Gardens and a stint on the Channel 7 DIY program 'House Calls To The Rescue', with Johanna Griggs.

Rob's rugby playing days bore fruit, too. He met Gwen Jones in 1999 in Wales during the Rugby World Cup. They struck up a friendship and, as fate would have it, she was sent to Sydney in 2000 to cover the Olympics. They married in 2003 had a baby boy named Gruffydd (pronounced Gri-fith) in 2006.

Dr Alister Webster

Alister's interest in animals began during his childhood when he worked in the animal houses in his father's veterinary surgery and on the family farm. He graduated from university with first class honours and has practised as a vet in both country and city practices, working with both large and small animals.

Alister has a particular passion - preventative health care for animals, which led to him developing Pure Animal Wellbeing (PAW, www.paw4pets.com). PAW focuses on enhancing the health and wellbeing of pets. Alister also frequently locums at various vet hospitals.

As Alister says, 'Every day is different - depending on the patients that come to the clinic, from cats and dogs to budgies and horses. The most rewarding thing about being a vet is making sick animals healthy again and seeing their happy owners take them home.

Dora Papas

Dora is the deputy editor and decorating editor of Better Homes and Gardens magazine, the biggest-selling title in the Australian homemaker category.

Her career in publishing began in 1993, when she worked as a craft editor for Better Homes and Gardens. From 1996 until 2001 she worked on Family Circle magazine as the Decorating and craft editor. In 1998 Family Circle launched FCTV, a daytime television show, shot on location at the magazine's offices. Dora appeared as a regular presenter on FCTV and went on to edit and launch a series of special-interest publications before returning to Better Homes and Gardens in June 2002.

Adam Woodhams

A lifelong gardening devotee, with over 15 years experience in the garden industry, Adam has been deputy gardening editor with Better Homes and Gardens for over five years. Adam graduated from Ryde College of Horticulture. Since then he has enjoyed a diverse career in the horticultural industry, including managing a large retail nursery marketing group, operating his own garden design consultancy business and teaching horticulture and design at Community Colleges.

Adam has won a multitude of design and environmental awards for his garden designs, is an award-winning horticultural photographer and has been a regular speaker on garden and history themed harbour cruises with the Australian National Maritime Museum for nearly a decade.

Adam is passionate about contemporary sustainable garden design. He opens his private garden in suburban Sydney every year in the Australian Open Garden scheme to showcase his design ideas and share his vision with others.

Scott Pape - The Barefoot Investor

Scott Pape is Australia’s favourite money guy. Each week he shares practical information on all things money.

Scott made headlines in 2004 with the publication of his first book, The Barefoot Investor, which was an overwhelming success. The book has since been printed in the UK, Holland and India and Australia.

Sir Richard Branson probably said it best when he stated, ‘The Barefoot Investor makes finance fun’. It is Scott’s unique ability to combine his knowledge, experience and infectious humour to achieve what most people thought was impossible – to carve a niche in the financial market targeted at younger generations.

Pape combines his knowledge, experience, and infectious personality through which humour largely prevails, to deliver street-wise strategies to people who simply don’t do finance.

Hi Johanna, I was listening to the radio show today and missed the segment on cats marking their territory. I was wondering where I could go to find out some more information. Sinead.
