Appealing to people of all ages, gamers and non gamers alike, the Nintendo DS range has been a huge success for Nintendo. By cleverly blending traditional games with educational puzzles and brain benders the DS has managed to capture the imagination of the public, something that becomes obvious when you look at the sales figures.
Now Nintendo has released the DSi, an update on the DS that draws a little from Nintendo's other popular release, the Wii. Nintendo has also used this opportunity to 'fix' a few things with the DS. While they were never problems per se, the new bigger screen, easier to use volume control and on/off switch make the whole experience a little more user friendly.
Perhaps the biggest change is the introduction of two cameras, one inside the unit (to shoot the user) the other on the outside (to shoot things and people opposite the user). This means you can now use your DSi as a camera (there is a slot for a memory card so you can store your pics) but not only that, the DSi comes inbuilt with a funky program that allows you to draw on, add backgrounds to and generally have fun with your photos. You are also able to download programs and applications off a DSi store and also make your own tunes thanks to the DSi's music feature.
Overall the DSi is a lot of fun and if you don't have a DS at all then I recommend getting this one as the added functionality will mean more options for you in the months to come. However, if you currently own a DS I'd recommend hanging onto it for the time being before you make the switch, just so you can see what will be in offer in the games and programs that soon to be released and which use the new technology.
