Another dead co-worker and lots of thirsty vamps - yes, Sookie Stackhouse is back. In the second instalment of this rip-roaring vampire series Bill and Sookie are going strong, but unfortunately he isn't the only vamp in the area. Nor he is the only creature of the night interested in our blonde telepath and her special abilities. And when poor old Sookie is attacked by a supernatural being, the vamps step in to help - for a price.
Soon, our sassy Southern heroine is hotfooting it to Dallas. Big stuff for a girl who hasn't spent much time out of her home town of Bon Temps, Louisiana, or gone further than New Orleans before. And while Sookie is excited about her first plane trip, she is not so thrilled at the commission she has to carry out in Dallas - namely to use her mind to track down a missing vampire.
It sounds simple, but before long a straightforward missing persons case degenerates into a supernatural free-for-all. Sookie has to deal with religious fanatics, a spot of torture and a deadly shootout. Hey, at least she gets to meet another telepath.
And if all that isn't enough, waiting back home for her is the unsolved mystery of her co-worker's murder. Sookie plunges once more into the seedy breach to tackle that little conundrum, and once again leaves us wanting more.
Stay tuned for book three!
