Looking good after a break-up is the ultimate revenge. Celebrities like Scarlett Johansson, Katie Holmes, Blake Lively and even Kate Middleton know that looking hot is the best way to keep themselves in the limelight and catch a new beau quickly! They employ a cast of beauty professionals to make sure their post break up pap shots have them glowing, gorgeous and looking like they just stepped off a yacht. If you've been more Bridget Jones than Jennifer Aniston, get ready for a beauty wake up call. Time for an extreme make over ladies!

Hair

Hair is often the most immediate place to start and is the most dramatic way to transform your look. Don't worry if what you get is not what you want forever. Remember, hair grows back and there are always hair extensions! For maximum impact, go for a change in both the colour and the cut. If you are a bit terrified of dramatic change, take your best (and most honest) girlfriend to a wig store and have some fun trying different styles, cuts and coloured wigs. You'll soon know what tones and lengths most flatter your complexion and face shape. It might seem a bit odd but it's definitely a great place to work out exactly what you want.

With the rise of excellent quality hair extensions, getting the chop is not your only option. You can also opt to go from short to long in less than a day (be prepared to spend upward of $1000 for a full head of long, human hair extensions) and then always remember to get the extensions cut and coloured to suit your face so that you wear the hair instead of the other way around!

Make Up

Compliment your new look by getting a professional opinion and some new products that flatter and enhance your best features. Breaking up can be hugely liberating and it's a time when women tend to experiment with a side of their personality that may have been hidden in the old relationship. If you were always the quiet and reserved partner, now might be the time to let loose your inner vixen and make up is a great way to take your alter ego for a test drive.

Most make up brands offer makeovers and some offer make up lessons too. I always recommend going to a brand that you love and checking out the girls behind the counter before deciding who to book with. If you admire the girl at a counter for her perfectly groomed appearance, perfect skin and a glow worth bottling, that's a pretty good indication you are going to get advice and products you will be happy with from that counter. If you are a regular at a brand, ask if they have a professional make up artist on the team and if they would be willing to help you try some different looks and experiment with some colours before committing to buy.

Scent can trigger memory and emotion. If you're still wearing the fragrance Mr Wrong gave you three years ago for Christmas, now is the time to break up with your old perfume and try a whole new expression of who you are. If you had no restrictions or associated references, how would you like to present your self to the world? You may not (yet) be feeling confident and sexy, but as the old saying goes, fake it until you make it and fragrance can open that door right now. A great and inexpensive way to try a new look and to get guidance in re-inventing yourself is to book in a session at your favourite make up counter.

To get attention and good service, always make an appointment and let them know what you are booking in for and that you require advice and service. Get dressed for the part. Don't turn up with dirty hair, wearing jeans and an old T-shirt. A glamorous make over will fall flat if the rest of you does not look the part. Take notes and take photos so you can re-create the steps and look at home!
