Primal Challenge Race Wrap Up!

I competed in the inaugural Primal Challenge yesterday, and believe me, my body is feeling it today!! EVERY muscle in my body aches....but in a good way!
My friend Claire and I were very last minute entries into the Primal Challenge, as our regular Sunday morning ride was cancelled. Rocked up to Jamieson Park in Narrabeen at 8am Sunday morning, where the wheels were in motion with officials setting up the course and St Johns ambos on standby!
Alex, founder of Primal Fit and race creator, gave us all a briefing on what we were in for. While most adventure races involve speed and endurance in running, kayaking and MTB etc, the Primal Challenge based on primal movements such as lifting, lunging, pulling etc - with a little bit of strategy on the side. Each 'tribe' goes head to head with other Tribes in a battle to win the overall title of 'Tribal Leaders' - it certainly wasn't like any other adventure race I'd done before!
Before we knew it, the race began. 1 minute squat hold linked back to back with your teammate, followed by a 4km trail run through the trees and by the lake to our first checkpoint. It was so gorgeous I nearly forgot I was racing!
Back at the base again we completed 6 more challenges:
As I'm sitting here at my desk today, I can feel every muscle in my body aching when I get up to go to the photocopier or grab a coffee - a reminder of an awesomely challenging day, which was extremely rewarding, successful and a lot of fun! Additionally, it was a great way to raise some money for the Starlight Foundation (Primal Fit donated 10% of the entry fee plus there was a raffle on the day).
Looking forward to the next Primal Challenge - LOOK OUT Warren and Guy, Claire and I are hungry to rip that winning trophy off you next time!!

Back at the base again we completed 6 more challenges:
- Medicine Ball Throw: 4kgs standard or 6kgs for a 1 minute advantage. We went 4kgs!
- Walking Lunge: My sensitive little knee let out a little whimper as I lunged up the grass. I ignored it and told it to suck it up.
- 400 Skips with rope: My tongue twisted as I had to count out loud to 400, and I was thankful for all the practise I had back at highschool...
- 100 Push Ups: Grateful to be a girl and allowed to drop to my knees, my arms were shaking as I punched out the final 10 before heading over to the row...
- 100 rows: Being a surf boat rower, I thought I'd find this one easy. No sir-ey. Not after 100 push ups.
- Sprint Relay: Again, being a sprinter, I thought I'd fly through this one. Again...not quite.
- Kettlebell Relay Race: Bad choice after the sprint relay - that's where the strategy comes into it. This was basically the sprint relay WITH a 20kg kettle ball. Ouch.
