Following a nomination process that involved the leading sports journalists from across the globe, a collection of the world's greatest sports stars, including Australia's Steph Gilmore, have been nominated for the prestigious 2011 Laureus World Sports Awards.

The 2011 Laureus World Sports Awards, which recognise sporting achievement in 2010, are the premier honours on the international sporting calendar. Winners are voted by the Laureus World Sports Academy, consisting of 46 of the greatest sportsmen and sportswomen of all time.

Winners will be revealed at a televised Awards Ceremony staged in Abu Dhabi on Monday, February 7 2011.

Australia's Steph Gilmore has again been nominated for the Laureus World Action Sports Award, an award she was nominated for in both 2008 and 2009, and won in 2010. This year, she's up against some pretty hot competition, including fellow pro surfer Kelly Slater and king of the snowboard, Shaun White.

A full list of 2011 Nominees for this category are:

1. Jamie Bestwick (UK) BMX - seventh gold medal in BMX Vert at X Games, with first-ever four-peat

2. Victor Fernandez (Spain) Windsurfing - won PWA Wave Tour and led ranking throughout season

3. Stephanie Gilmore (Australia) Surfing - won her fourth consecutive world championship

4. Levi Sherwood (New Zealand) Freestyle Moto-Cross - at 18, won two events on X-Fighters Tour

5. Kelly Slater (US) Surfing - won an unprecedented record tenth World Surfing Championship.

6. Shaun White (US) Snowboarding - won second straight Olympic gold in Halfpipe, with 48.4 out of 50

Proceeds from the Laureus World Sports Awards directly benefit and underpin the work of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation which supports almost 80 community projects around the world which have helped to improve the lives of more than one million young people through the use of sport.
