Julius Sterling Guy Fox, 27, has been charged with striking the then 22-year-old with a metal pole in December 2010.

Gilmore was walking to a set of stairs leading to her unit on the NSW north coast when she was set upon.

The four-time world champion suffered a fractured wrist, a cut to the back of her head and cuts to her hand.

She was out of the water for about six weeks after the attack at the Tweed Heads unit.

Fox, who remains in custody, has been charged with wounding and intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He did not appear at Lismore Local Court on Tuesday.

Magistrate Jeff Linden set his case down for another mention on February 21, when it will be decided which witnesses will appear at committal proceedings.

This cat sounds like a real brave warrior. Lose the weapon and try an adult male, wimp.
