Kennelly underwent surgery to the right side of her face where surgeons had to remove pieces of coral embedded in the wound.

The Hawaiian had forty stitches, 30 at the front on her face and ten in the skull. The 33 year old said it was like being in a car accident.

In 2003, Keala dominated heavy wave competitions in Tavarua and Teahupoo, she took the Triple Crown in Hawaii and came in second in the ASP's Women's World Championship Tour.

Keala set a record in 2005 at Teahupoo, riding the biggest tow in wave by a woman. She was featured playing herself in the movie Blue Crush.

Check out Keala's severe wipeout (1:50) during the Code Red tow in session at the Billabong Pro. She managed to walk away from this crash unscathed.
