30 years ago, Queenslanders witnessed something special, when the 1982 Brisbane Commonwealth Games Marathon was held on the streets of Brisbane.
Running icon, Robert de Castella took the gold medal in a true display of Aussie determination and grit. 'Deek' overcame Tanzanian runner Ikangaa to win in a time of 2:09:18. A mere 12 seconds separated the two over the marathon distance and was earmarked one of the most exciting spectacles in history.
In 2012, we invite you to celebrate 30 years since Brisbane Marathon Commonwealth Games. Celebrate Deeks' legendary battle with Ikangaa and commemorate your achievement with special registrant only benefits. This is your chance to take home your own piece of running history.
