The action never stops at Thredbo
It’s just a matter of tackling the legendary mountain on two wheels instead of skis as the long runs are transformed into a riders downhill dream. Thredbo has a range of trails for the beginner or the expert. You can enjoy exploring the mountain with a qualified instructor or feel free to do it by yourself.
If mountain biking is something new for you, then the best place to start is in the Thredbo Village along the Pipeline Path and Bridle Trail Loop.
Feeling a little more confident? Thredbo Mountain Bike Tours suggests heading up the Friday Flat fire trail, across the top of the bobsled and over to the lower part of the downhill trail at the Tower Ten switchbacks. From there you head down the Meadows single track and back around the golf course. This track has a bit of everything including technical sections, hills & stairs. You will know you are riding in the mountains by the time you have finished this trail.
Those that are a little more fearless and up for an adrenaline rush, the Thredbo Downhill trail has your name written all over it. Following the winter season, the famous trail was given a makeover and it now has two new ‘European World Cup style’ sections and the Thredbo trail crew say it makes for faster and more spectator friendly riding around the lower slopes.

Getting ThereTo access the Thredbo Downhill you need to jump on the Kosciusko Chairlift, it operates everyday from November to May. A day ticket costs $75 for unlimited rides between 9am-4:00pm. You won’t be allowed on the chairlift without wearing full body armour protection including a full face helmet.

Need help?
For those who haven’t ridden the Thredbo Downhill course before you need to complete an initiation session with a qualified instructor. During the hour you’ll learn how to load onto the chairlift with your bike, where to access trails and you’ll be given technical tips for riding downhill safely. The lesson plus a full day of riding costs $105 and after you’re free to hit the hills.
If you don’t have your own gear you can hire everything you need from South East Mountain Biking Co through the Thredbo Bike Shop. Packages start from $199 and include bike hire, body armour, full face helmet, lift ticket and initiation.
