GreenEdge, backed by an Australian caravan tycoon, had been granted a WorldTour license for 2012-13, the UCI said in a statement late on Monday.RadioShack-Nissan, the result of a merger between RadioShack and Leopard-Trek, had had its registration approved for 2012, the UCI said on its website (www.uciworldtour.com)."This decision concludes the procedures for the registration, renewal and award of new UCI WorldTour licences," the UCI said.GreenEdge's approval was hailed by the team's general manager Shayne Bannan, who as a former national performance director of Cycling Australia groomed the country's top riders for their Olympic tilts for a number of years."A lot of people have put a lot of work and effort in over the past 10 months, so to finally see the fax come through it was a really good relief and now the real fun starts," Bannan told local broadcaster SBS."I think now we can really finalise our plans in terms of competition calendars and really focus now on the athletes and the services we can provide in an effort to have a successful year."RadioShack-Nissan are managed by Johan Bruyneel, who guided Lance Armstrong to his record seven Tour de France titles, and will be led by twice Tour de France runner-up Andy Schleck. The 2012 WorldTour kicks off in Adelaide, Australia, at the six-stage Tour Down Under from Jan. 17-22.2012 Team Roster:Michael Albasini (Sui)

ReplyGreat for Australian sport in general. Despite the local knockers we have a comprehensive range of world class sportspersons in all sports in Australia. Wish them al;l the best in their endeavor. Success may take a while, and only hope they can stick it out until same comes to them.
1 ReplyOops, that should say NOT a big priority in the first few years!!
ReplyCalm down guys. It's great the team is in, but by their own press releases, I don't think the T de F is a big priority in the first couple of years.
ReplyTotally! I can't wait either - so long overdue, now the fruit ripens, Australia is going places now with a unified cycling force - a triumph.
