Former tennis and current golf pro Draper, 33, puts down the microphone and reconnects with his clubs, and 10-month-old son Jayden, after being booted from the singing contest.
Fave performance?
"I Don't Want to Miss a Thing." I felt like I really connected with that song. It was hard to visualise my wife, because she's not there, and Ricki-Lee was there in front of me, and I'm sort of singing it to herI think that was why Ricki-Lee thought it was so good!
What skills from your sporting career did you bring?
Certainly passion, that comes easily to me. The love of music is the same that I have for sport. And dedication, I was trying my best to sing 100 per cent every week, I got a bit obsessive at times. That's a strength but also a downfall of mine. I got a bit analytical about what I was doing and that's probably why my performances weren't as good as they could have been.
Will we see the Scott Draper band in the future?
No, you will not! I can't play an instrument and I don't sing well enough. My brother's very good musically so sometimes, you know, we find the keyboard and have a sing and whatnot.
So there could be a Draper brothers band?
My brother's good enough, from a musical standpoint. Unfortunately I'm not!
As you're both Gold Coasters, had you met Ricki-Lee before?
No, but I remember her from her Idol days. I was throwing things when she was voted off! I've never told anyone that before. It's been a pleasure to be in her company the last few weeks.
And did you ever think, "Oooh, I could go on Idol"?
Oh god no! The only people I'm better than are the people that you take the mickey out of, in the auditions. I've got them covered, but when you get to the Top 20, I've no chance.
Who do you tip to win?
I think Russell's got a big chance. He's got a great-sounding voice and he's got the sex factor going with the girls.
So you don't think you've got the sex factor going?
Ah, I don't think so. I'm a decent person, a nice bloke, maybe that would win me a few votes. But obviously not enough!
