Doggie rescue - back from skin and bone

May 16 07:15am

A pup that was abused so badly it was close to death - is now having the last bark.

Thanks to help from the RSPCA and some willing new owners, Sally is no longer just skin and bone.

Sally's story

Jane Smith was channel surfing on April 23 when she saw a story about a dumped dog called Sally.

Sally, a border collie around 10 years old, was found tied up in a Brisbane suburb and neighbours had seen duct tape around her mouth.

Her skin was saggy and she was very thin.

When Jane's husband Martin arrived home, they both fell in love with her.

Jane contacted the on RSPCA Animal Rescue and asked if they could adopt Sally.

Passing the test

The RSPCA received dozens of calls of interest to adopt Sally and 18 suitable applicants were short-listed.

Becoming a new owner of a dog is a big decision for any family, but the RSPCA takes it just as seriously as you should.

Jane and Martin had two interviews with the RSPCA and their home was inspected as part of the application.

Their living conditions and home had to be assessed. They live in a Queenslander home with a deck and a small backyard.

Sally on the mend

Sally needs all the love and attention she can get.

When Sally was found she weighed 19 kgs, but now she weighs 29 kgs.

A dog dermatologist has diagnosed Sally with an allergic reaction to grass and pollen.

She is being given a cortisone cream and a bath with a special treatment once a week.

Sally's proud new owners say she was scared but now is wandering around happily and good natured.

We have a collie with what looks like the same allergies. We have tried everything we can get our hand on, including herbal remedies but nothing seems to clear it up so completely. Could you please find out what the name of the shampoo that the new owners of Sally have been using. Thanks

Hi TCLIF5

Sally uses MALASEB Dog shampoo. She also has a special cortisone cream we rub in once a week after her wash.
cheers

Solar power: Even with the rebate, solar panels are still too expensive for most households. Given the urgency of the problem, we need poorer households to have panels also. Best solution: a sliding means test - 100% rebate to low income households to no rebate at the other end
