What do you like or not like about the budget?

May 14 06:40am

Not everyone seems to have won in this year's Budget by Wayne Swan. With all the focus on 'working families', pensioners and the rich could both be without significant benefit.

The Single Aged Pensioners have been forgotten again, the $500 is a catch up but the real help we need is a rise in Basic Pension. I have blasted off an email already this morning to Mr Rudd. They know some of us will not be around to vote for them next time, but dont count on it Mr Rudd.

When I got pregnant with our third, there would be a baby bonus and family benefit B. Now there is neither for us, but hey I'm still pregnant and still have the baby costs to come. I would have thought families whose incomes were over $150,000 were the sorts to encourage to have more children.

We hear a lot about the efforts of the federal govt to cut spending etc to address inflation. What is being done at state govt level? Past comments indicate that the fiscal handling at state level is not as "thorough" at federal. When are they going to come into line?

it's hard to hear that we are no longer working class! my husband works his body hard 10hrs every day then comes home to quotes and invoices, i went to uni for 5 years working 3 part time jobs and now have a hefty HECS bill. we have the income we have because we worked for it - it's an insult really

As a single mum with 2 kids and working part time and earning $24,000 a year give or take and have done so for a few years. I am so stunned to hear people complain that the baby bonus is means tested how can some one that earns more than $150,000 dollars possibbly have to complain about?

We are both in emergency services with combined income of just over 150,000. I am expecting 2nd child. will not get child care benifit paying $135/day, $675/week. Where is the incentive to return to work full time when majority of pay go to childcare. more leaving work to care for children

Initially excited about the assistance with the child care rebate rising from 30% - 50% but now find the threshold is $110,000 & I miss out altogether. What is going on? I just don't understand how the Medicare threshold can be $150,000.00 for couples and Tax B $150,000.00 but childcare $110,000?
