A lesson on training pets, even goldfish!

May 09 06:00am

Training animals can be long, hard work. Training Goldfish? That was once thought impossible but it now seems possible to teach the slimy pets tricks they will repeat for years to come!

Internet video has certainly brought several success stories into the public eye.

One example is this video from a Japanese TV show that displays just how co-ordinated a group of Goldfish can be. Many people believed it to be a digitally altered video, until a Hobart conference heard from a Veterinary Scientist who had proved the fish have a memory much longer than 3 seconds..

The video featured on today's show is below ...

But we know training fish isn't what everyone is into. If you have dedicated weekds to getting your pet to do somehting nifty, tell ue about it below, or even better, send us a photo or video of the pet you have trained!

Have you trained an animal to do something brilliant?

I have trained my dogs to help around house. They will help pick up washing, take off my socks, pick up/carry things, shut doors/drawers, turn on/off tv. They also know tricks, do obedience/agility and herding. All positively using a clicker as a bridge and rewards.

Our little yorkshire terrier has trained us really well, barks for breakfast, tea, barks when she wants to be lifted up on bed, barks when she wants to go to the beach, barks when she wants a love, barks when she hears vistors, we just roll over and bark

Our dogs are trained to pull a sled (or the Queensland version is a scooter since we have no snow)... so I'm thinking with the price of petrol that they may be cheaper to run than a car soon! Wonder how we'll look zooming through the traffic? Does that mean we could use the transit lane?

Solar power: Even with the rebate, solar panels are still too expensive for most households. Given the urgency of the problem, we need poorer households to have panels also. Best solution: a sliding means test - 100% rebate to low income households to no rebate at the other end
