eBay forcing users to pay their pal. Will you comply?

May 09 12:43am

Many ebay users claim that new plans to force users to use PayPal (or COD - Cash on Delivery) as their only methods of payment are unfair.

Some unhappy sellers, many of whom make a living from their  eBay stores,  have even taken eBay to the ACCC for anti-competitive behaviour.

The changes come into efect on June 17th. Although eBay has held forums to face opposition to the changes, many discussions are said to have been fiery.

How do you feel about eBay's plans to force you to use their subsidiary, PayPal?

I have been buying and selling on ebay for 8 years and have only had a handful of problem transactions that I have always resolved.
The extra cost of paypal on top of the already costly ebay listing and selling fees, has made it so it is not worth me selling with ebay anymore.

I'm more upset about ebay charging me fees for items that DON'T SELL! If you're just a little buyer & don't have an ebay store it should be like classified ads where you pay as you sell. I've just got slogged with fees that have cost me 2x the amount of money I made on the few items I sold!

Ask the eBay people why they're trialling this in Australia first, instead of a larger market such as the US? Surely a larger market has more users requiring protection? Of course the real reason is it's a foot-in-the-door gambit, Australia has less laws prohibiting restriction of trade and monopoly

Ive been buying and selling on ebay for 8 years with only a handful of problems. With the paypal fees being added onto the already expensive ebay fees, well its just not worth me selling anymore

paypal is all well and good if you have a credit card with available funds but if you use the bank deposit option through paypal you have to wait 10 days for it to clear. this is pathetic as a normal deposit takes 2 days to clear. sellers & customers beware of this catch.

EBAY PAYPAL = $$$$

I just sold a $4500 Jetski, and Ebay just took $200 of that! The listing fee, combined with the final value fee amounted to $90. The PAYPAL fee was a whopping $109!!!! This is fraud at it's finest. NO MORE EBAY FOR ME!!!!

Why not offer Paymate as well - this is exactly the same but ebay does not own it. With direct deposit the buyer has no more details than if you gave them a cheque . Mr. McGibbon neglected to tell you that paypal also holds your money for a period - you cant access and they earn interest.

I dont like it. I'm a direct debit person...

I think it's time Ebay had some significant competition to keep them honest. Anyone????
