eBay forcing users to pay their pal. Will you comply?

May 09 12:43am

Many ebay users claim that new plans to force users to use PayPal (or COD - Cash on Delivery) as their only methods of payment are unfair.

Some unhappy sellers, many of whom make a living from their  eBay stores,  have even taken eBay to the ACCC for anti-competitive behaviour.

The changes come into efect on June 17th. Although eBay has held forums to face opposition to the changes, many discussions are said to have been fiery.

How do you feel about eBay's plans to force you to use their subsidiary, PayPal?

Hello Team,

I use Ebay for Buying and Selling. I find these changes appalling as it looks nothing more than a grab at more money from the consumer. With these new changes you will have to pay to list your item, Pay when it sells, and then pay Paypal a transaction fee? Too Much. James

I have made over 150 transactions both buying and selling, here and overseas and, except for some overseas sellers, have always settled successfully without using PayPal. PayPal offers no protection against the buyer or seller who is a true con artist. I've moved to OZtion where I have a choice. Sue

i sell and buy on ebay, i like paypal as it is safer, BUT, paypal charge me a percentage of the whole amount i receive from sales, they charge a percentage of the items AND they also charge a percentage of the POSTAGE AND HANDLING FEES too.

I rely on bank deposits or transfers to pay cash at the post office for post paks, stamps and other postage costs to international buyers. With paypal only some customers will have to wait longer to receive their orders as i have to withdraw money to my bank to cover these costs and that takes days

sunrise team never fear you can use other payment methods on other ebay sights it is only the Australian ebay sight which is introducing paypal only payment method. Or why not use Australian Auction sights like OZtion.com.au.

I have been an ebay customer since Oct 02 and am disgusted how once again once a company gets big it forgets about customer service and is just out to make further profits by forcing eveyone to use PayPal who in turn pay a conmmission to ebay for each transaction that it handles.

I am a small seller, who uses both direct deposit and paypal as a payment option. It is the fact that my choice of payment options is being taken away is what upsets me. Isn't this market monopolisation only allowing a payment option that is owned by the same company?

I will now be investigating other ways to buy and sell. EBAY have done this purely because they want to control every aspect of Ebay Transactions. They get fees for listing, selling, and now forced fees via. PayPal for both Selling and Buying. I think these fees are now totalling nearly 10%.

The Australian ebay Is the only ebay sight which is changing to the paypal method of paying for items. The US sight still will have other payment methods besides paypal. Or use The australian equvilent auction sight OZtion.com.au.
