Baby sleep crisis

Feb 01 08:52am
Australian parents are in the middle of a sleep crisis however Sheyne Rowley - the Australian Baby Whisperer- says it doesn't have to be that way.

Sheyne believes the crisis stems from a trend which believes letting a child cry means you're neglecting them. Because of this trend parents have been led to believe they're neglecting the baby.

Some of Sheyne's advice:
  • Find a balance - it's ok for children to cry - they need to learn their different emotions.
  • There are different types of crying. Sometimes it's just because they are bored and they just scream for their parents straight away - you need to teach them to reach for a toy or something rather than just crying.
  • Distance yourself from the room - don't rush in there every time they cry. Think about the message you're delivering - it may be affecting why the baby doesn't like the cot and why it is fighting sleep.

Thank you for wasting my time. Sheyne Rowley wasted that whole segment telling us nothing, I am happy they worked out lucas' problem, All I saw was an ad for Sheyne Rowley' center and a sales pitch for a sleep belt. I will continue to wrap and tuck in my baby and keep my money.

Hi, I have a 9 month old baby who has 2,40 min naps during the day and wakes 2-3 times a night nd cries until she is b'fed. I am returning to work in 2 months and started trying to let her cry it out - seems to just be making her anxious about going to sleep. I like the idea of teaching her to play

Kurt Fearnley: I was relief teaching in Blayney when I met Kurt as a young school boy. The first thing that struck me was his smile and contagious positive outlook at all times. I see nothing has changed with this outstanding Australian. Although I never saw him again, it is a testament to the power of his personality that I have not forgotten him more than 15 years later.
