Can you consider alcohol use drug use?

Jun 24 07:18am

- James Pitts of Odyssey House says that when people  talk about drugs, "what people fail to realise, most of us think about illicit drugs like amphetamines, ice, but the drug that causes the most damage to society is alcohol."

Last year Odyssey house took in NSW took in 817 people with addictions, alcohol was the leading cause of people’s addictions above drugs.

He wants people's perspective to change and consider alcohol use a form of drug use.

Will you ever be able to think of alcohol use as 'drug use'?

Patronising Doo Gooders supporting the Government Crackdown and Iron Fist Rule is Fascism, the liers don't have a mandate, they don't have a platform to even show this is what the voters voted for ,know it alls patronising isnt democracy.

All you have to do is look at the stats. Alcohol kills more than ice, herroin and others. Alcohol causes more hospital intakes than the drugs. I dont support drugs, i dont support alochol either. When the governement is letting us freely buy alcohol and tobacco they are letting us be drug addicts.

Last time I looked alcohol was legal in Australia! I object to the term 'recreational drugs' - illegal drugs are not a 'sport' they kill and are very addictive. Alcohol can be a problem if it is taken in excess just as food can be. Let's start taking responsibility for our own choices.

Its a disgrace the patronizing point the fingger at "Drink Drivers" then jump in their cars stoned on illeagal drugs and just don't get the attack against Alcohole is to line the pockets of the illeagal drug peddling rich, get off the grog and buy the illegall.

The only thing that makes a drug "illegal" is when the government says so. Tobacco is one of the most addictive substances known to man. We arn't allowed to grow it but we are allowed to smoke and buy it, making the government very very rich. Anything that alters state of mind is a drug. E.g Alcohol

The goverment should legalise drugs and make more money than the drug pushers but no that may interfer with the pockets of politicians who are supporting the illegal drugs.

Big difference between Mind Altering and Mood changing, if the bloke wants to help he should get his facts straight as the people he is dealing with will pick up any and all avenues to avoid his attemps to confront, Alcohol @ people Mood change, Drugs will Mind alter

Of course alcohol is a drug. But like others have said, it's "ok" because it's legal. Drugs kill. ALL drugs. But if you choose to risk it, it should be your own choice. I think the only reason alcoholics are given a choice is because it makes the government money.
