The UK is abolishing the traditional school report with an online system.
If successful, this new 'real-time' reporting plan could see British parents able to access their child's weekly results any time and make their teacher more accessible.
The British Government say it's the way forward but teachers complain it will make their heavy workload impossible to manage.
The plan may also hit snags with parents without computers and some teachers saying it's beyond their technical know-how.
"Ministers believe that the new reporting systems will make it easier for parents to be regularly involved in their children's education and will improve school standards."
Under the plan, the government will help low income families get online with the hope parents will be able to see attendance records, grades and discipline reports.
Jenny Branch , president of The Australian Council of State School Organisation, says the system wouldn't work here but has some merit. Jenny concedes the Australian system is flawed in making parents wait until the end of the year to get a thorough look at their child's progress.
"Schools have a responsibility to keep parents in the picture."
The other concern is teachers' time will be dominated answering emails.
"The idea of better and earlier communication is great but logistics are not the answer," says Jenny.
Have your say on this issue in the soapbox.
It works! I have helped many students this way. Once I gave another teacher forewarning when a parent was gunning for her.
I have worked in Aged Care and have had to do daily progress notes on clients up to 80-90 a week . It would be a good tool for teahers to report to parents this way.
