Doing Fine in 2009 - Jobs TO DO LIST

Jan 09 08:17am

Careers expert Nicholas Tuckfield from Talent-2 has some advice for people searching for a job in 2009.

"Beyond all the obvious comments around personal presentation, punctuality and being realistic in your financial expectations, my key tip for a candidate in 2009 is to understand that employers are cautious, they are very conscious of adding people and therefore adding cost to their business and they want to be sure that they are going to get excellent value for their investment in people."

"So to an individual looking for a role, I would say understand that employers want the best candidate, not just someone who can do the job. In my line of work almost everyone I interview is keen, enthusiastic, motivated and a good team player but how do you convince an employer that you really are a good team player, as opposed to just saying "trust me, I'm a good team player"."

Kurt Fearnley: I was relief teaching in Blayney when I met Kurt as a young school boy. The first thing that struck me was his smile and contagious positive outlook at all times. I see nothing has changed with this outstanding Australian. Although I never saw him again, it is a testament to the power of his personality that I have not forgotten him more than 15 years later.
