Suggestions for saving hundreds of dollars and making yourself look and feel great according to Felicity Percival, Womens Health editor:
1/ DIY FACIAL
The ultimate at-home beauty treatment is a face mask. They're easy to make and you can do around eight facials for the price of a spa one. All your ingredients are waiting inside your pantry or fridge. Apples blast blemishes, tomatoes can get rid of blackheads and avocado is great nourishing for dry skin.
2/ HAIR COLOURING
Buying one from the supermarket will save you around $100 per colour. And, always use a hand mirror to make sure you've got an even coverage. Home hair colouring is best for brunettes; I'd advise blondes to pay the money for a salon job. Getting the correct shade of blonde is tricky and you might end up looking a Playboy bunny.
3/ FAUX TANNING
At $40 a bottle, you"ll get four body tans for the cost of one spray tan. Bargain! To stop yourself looking like a human orange, always apply at night and stay naked for 10 minutes as clothes can cause streaking. You can wash off excess in the morning.
4/ WAXING
Waxing your legs, underarms, bikini and upper lip is a cinch to do a home, but use wax strips. Hot oil can turn ugly and your bathroom, skin and clothes can often become covered in the stuff. For waxing your private bits, best see a professional.
5/ DIY FOOT BLISS
With the right ingredients and hand strokes, you can give your feet a purely indulgent experience that you'll pay a motza for in spas. Peppermint is your key ingredient for relaxation and smoothing rough heels.
And things Felicity says "Don't try this at home..."
1/ Use needles at home! A beauty treatment that involves needles should be administered by a specialist in professional surroundings.
2/ Micro dermabrasion can be severe and you don't want to risk scrubbing off too much skin - it's best to see a professional for this.
3/ Apply an at-home laser to your skin. There are a few new kits on the market that allow you to administer laser hair removal at home, but at Women's Health we recommend you always see a specialist and research the type of laser they use.
4/ Cut your hair. Spend the money and get a pro to do it.
5/ Teeth whitening. If you want the best results - and bang for your buck - consult a dentist first. Over the counter preparations can only lighten your teeth one shade, which is hardly noticable. Better to spend your money on something guaranteed to give you results.

Kurt Fearnley: I was relief teaching in Blayney when I met Kurt as a young school boy. The first thing that struck me was his smile and contagious positive outlook at all times. I see nothing has changed with this outstanding Australian. Although I never saw him again, it is a testament to the power of his personality that I have not forgotten him more than 15 years later.
