Scary tales and why Kochie is afraid of Miss Muffett

Jan 07 07:50am

Are some Fairy Tales really too frightening to be told to children? That's the suggestion put forward by one group and debated by today's All Stars.

Lisa Forrest says that real children seek out the most bloodthirsty animals and scary parts of stories. "Once they discover dinosaurs they go for the T-Rex!"

However, Kochie agrees that Fairy Tales can be too harsh for young minds and says "I think I got my fear of spiders from Miss Muffett!"

What do you think? Should kids be spared from scary Fairy Tale? tell us below...

Oh please! First Baa Baa black sheep went to Baa Baa Rainbow sheep now this. These stories were made to teach children moral and ethical values throught the use of fiction. If you look at some of the "kids" movies these days there are scarier elements in them than in these stories eg Monster house.

Good morning. When I did a Fashion Course in Melbourne 40 years ago, here is a dress I designed and made. Does it look familiar.

kochie, where do you come up with this stuff? Fear of spiders caused by little Miss Muffett? You're just too funny.
What would all of us parents do for fun if we couldn't scare the children with a good old fairy tale just before bed. Little Red Riding hood is a great e.g.

You have to be kidding, most well add mating into it if your going to say that lol. Leave fairy tales as they are, they have worked for years and have been around since than, don't change them because the fairy tales reflect the real world not a made up one that doesn't get the lady eaten by a fox!

Fairy tales do not seem to have had any devastating effect on my own kids, I can't say the same for getting on the room intercoms after the story and making scratching ang growl sounds, the kids really moved then.

Of for god's sake! This is political correctness gone waaaay to far. I was read these so called 'scary' fairytales as a child, and I turned out OK. These people who call for the banning of these fairytales and for the banning of other things should go and get a life!

I dont remember ever being frightened of fairy tales they were fun not scary. Frankly I can only remember the theme of half of them and I'm only 15!! But still its interesting to see what other people think on the subject.
