Fighting in the Middle East has entered an eleventh day as the death toll climbs to 580 Palestinians.
During this latest conflict, much of the world observing events on television has seen images of distressed, injured and dying children. Disturbingly, some reports are putting the number of children killed at 100 which has served to galvanise Islamic nations behind Palestine.
At least four Israeli soldiers have been killed since the ground offensive into Gaza began.
Sharon Lock is an Australian humanitarian activist who’s in Gaza working with International Solidarity Movement.
Riding with the Red Crescent Ambulance Service, Sharon says that most Palestinian families she has come into contact with haven’t just lost one child, they’ve lost "half their families".
She also says most Palestinians are living hand-to-mouth and the humanitarian crisis is worsening by the day.
She says there isn’t a lot of food available and she has watched as Palestinian paramedics srvive on bread and cheese.

Kurt Fearnley: I was relief teaching in Blayney when I met Kurt as a young school boy. The first thing that struck me was his smile and contagious positive outlook at all times. I see nothing has changed with this outstanding Australian. Although I never saw him again, it is a testament to the power of his personality that I have not forgotten him more than 15 years later.
