Would you take the rap for your child driver?

Jan 05 07:51am

Some parents are copping the demerit points fine for their child if their P-plater is caught speeding by fixed cameras.

The practice is nearly impossible to catch out but represents another way that young drivers are being seen to avoid true discipline and ignore their responsibilities.

Would you do such a thing to help your child keep driving? Tell us below...

i wouldn't i'd be tempted to take the blame but they have to make their own mistakes to learn by them

NO!. I am currently teaching my youngest of 4 to drive. Actually he would be the 6th learner that I have taught.
Once they reach the age of doing these things they need to take responsibility for their actions. They are making the choices, not me, so why on earth would I take their punishment????

No, responsibility for one's actions is part of the learning process; the person who has never made a mistake, hasn't learnt a thing. The parents of these children by their actions are condoning their Son or Daughter's actions and that only leads to disaster for them and some other innocent person

I have done it and and know now that it was the worse thing I could have done. It never taught him a lesson. I should have just let him cop the points, the fine and the big insurance bill.

No, I would NOT! What a totally unacceptable, ratbag idea. How the hell are the young gonna learn if someone else has to face the consequences of THEIR actions. Euthanase the fool who came up with this ludicrous 'idea!'

A P' Plater doesn't get all the points that a full licence holder gets. A P' Plater can do important jobs don't forget like pizza deliveries and other courier work which means they are at higher risk of losing a licence. Ive never considered taking points for a P' Plater.

Kurt Fearnley: I was relief teaching in Blayney when I met Kurt as a young school boy. The first thing that struck me was his smile and contagious positive outlook at all times. I see nothing has changed with this outstanding Australian. Although I never saw him again, it is a testament to the power of his personality that I have not forgotten him more than 15 years later.
