After years of yo-yo dieting, Oprah has given up the
weight war and has now ballooned to over 200 pounds (91 kilos).
She
writes in the January issue of O Magazine that her goal is no longer to be thin;
instead, she wants to be strong, healthy and fit.
If someone like
Oprah Winfrey has given up the battle of the bulge, what hope do the rest of us
have?
Do you believe Oprah Winfrey has given up the battle to lose weight? Tell us below..
Weight Loss Scientist Dr Amanda Sainsbury-Salis, who has
personally lost 28 kilos and kept it off for over 10 years, shares her
insights.
"What Oprah is doing is actually a fantastic move.
Medical research shows that the more restriction you use to lose weight, the
slower your metabolism becomes, the more likely you are to gain the weight back
again, and the more entrenched you become in yo-yo dieting. The best way to
break the cycle is to take a step back from trying to lose weight and focus on
the healthy lifestyle.
Your body is genetically programmed to be
an optimum healthy weight. So if you focus on the healthy lifestyle like Oprah,
and you eat according to your hunger, then the excess weight will come off and
stay off.
Eating according to your physical hunger is not easy, but
it's simple to learn how to do it. By using a food diary and writing down how
hungry and satisfied you feel before and after everything you eat, you will
quickly learn how to eat only when you feel hungry. That's when you'll start
losing weight without restriction.
Dr Sainsbury-Salis suggests you give your hunger a rating of -4
to 0, where -4 is ravenously hungry and 0 is not hungry at all. Aim to consume
kilojoules
only when you feel hungry at a level of -2 to -3.
Follow this idea and you will start
losing weight without restriction.
