Do lefties have an upper hand?

Nov 30 03:07pm

A new study from the UK suggests people who are left-handed, men, specifically, earn more in their careers. The survey of 18,000 people in the UK found lefties earn about $3000 more than righties.

The study correlates with another recent study saying left-handed boys underperform at school but enjoy greater financial success.

The story for left-handed women is rather different.  Left-handed girls are not only behind at school but go on to earn 4 per cent less than right-handed female colleagues.

Do you believe that left-handed men have more financial success? If so, why? Tell us below...

TOUGH LOVE FEATURE

My parents made me sit at the table to eat me dinner till I ate it. Sometimes I sat there for 3 hours and after not eating it then, I had to eat it for breakfast. I apprieciated my food today.

Left handed people have to be more resourceful because they live in a right handed (designed) world and consequently develop skills that are beneficial in success - ask Ronald Reagan,Bill Clinton, George Bush Snr, Barak Obama, John McCain.

I would like to hear a left-handed scientist talk about this topic to give it a more personal emphasis. I don't like the way right-handed people talk about it as if it is a facinating anomoly, we are people too!

There is so much negative literature references to being left handed and also social comments, "ugh you are a leftie", "Mollyduka" (whatever that means!). So speaking as if it is just a 'facinating' thing does not really help to normalise left-handedness

I agree with 'beagleyl' that left handed people learn to be more resourceful and to try different ways of doing things due to living in a right handed World. This can lead to entrepreneurial ideas and skills. The Uni of QLD Psychology Dept. found that 25% of first year students were left handed!

I would have like to hear a theory about why more left handed people are born in 'violent societies'? Are you implying that they are more violent?? Perhaps emotional stress of Mothers leads to the birth of left handers, to come in and change the situation with new ideas!!!

I also found that there were a lot of left handed people in my university classes, compared to school - with a lot of us being musically talented as well.
I was 1 of 2 "leftie" females at high school and funnily enough, both of us have gone on to be very successful and earn a great wage.

People that are left handed are often more artistic and lateral thinking. This provides the right handed people with help when they cant see a better solution to their problem. This makes left handers a valuable resource for innovation in business.

Kurt Fearnley: I was relief teaching in Blayney when I met Kurt as a young school boy. The first thing that struck me was his smile and contagious positive outlook at all times. I see nothing has changed with this outstanding Australian. Although I never saw him again, it is a testament to the power of his personality that I have not forgotten him more than 15 years later.
