Should we bring back the milkman?

Nov 27 08:11am

He delivered bottles of fresh milk to your door.

He changed the bottle tops for Christmas. He as dependable and faithful... to his task.

He had a sparkle in his eye - if you got up early enough to see him.

Tell us what you miss about the milkman and if you think the time has come to bring him back. Would you pay more?

I live in east melb and we have a milkman it is great. We can get milk, bread, cheese, fruit, veg, bacon and juice. It is all Aussie owned and run and is cheaper then the supermarket. The company is called Aussie farmers Direct and some of the profits go to the drought fund for the farmers.

I think we should definitely bring back the milkman! I never grew up with the milkman - and i think its about time we all did! I would be happy to pay more to bring him (or her) back!

i work in a smaller community pharmacy in brisbane eastern surburbs and our customers love the fact that our free delivery service allows them interaction with people on a regular basis. gives them a sense of security i think knowing someone is coming to visit specially the older patients. teresa

I have 2 little ones (19mths & 13 weeks) & find it impossible to get to the shops for the simple things like milk & bread this type of service would be fantastic!!
*My hubbys first job was doing the milk run while he was still in high school. It kept him fit and active put a few $$ in his pocket

Having the milk man deliver to your door was great. I grew up with it in NZ. I would love to have it back. Sometimes all you need are the essentials like milk and you don't feel like going to the shops just for that. It works out dearer in petrol or bus fares. Having a milk man was a special thing.

Having a milk man deliver to your housze would help with the elderly or sick people. Or others who just can't get out of the house very easily.

The return of the milkman is long overdue. Growing up in Sydney, I never had the privilege of being greeted in the morning with a smile and a carton of vanilla malt. Ultimately, if the milkman makes a comeback, why stop there? Milkmaids should follow suit.

YES, also deliver bread/pure juices also. Please bring back the horse & cart, when I was little used to hear them clip clop down the street, so soothing just like a cat purring but I suppose that will be the nie, or maybe electric utes like England I think could be wrong. Bring back the vegie man.

Also the best watch dog in the street the milko was hardly any burglaries then, and for the elderly, if milk wasn't picked up from yesterday morning, they new something was wrong and rung the Police.

I get my milk and bread delivered through Aussie Farmers Direct... they're in 3 states along the east coast - it's great for my grandmother as she is too old to go shopping and can get her milk, bread, eggs, bacon, fruit, veggies, juice etc delivered without having to leave her door. It's great!
