Sunset for our Solar industry?

Nov 20 10:47am

Despite the rebates the government offers for some households BP's solar panel factory is set to close and move their operations to a country where production is cheaper.

Solar panels are simple to install but the sales have not been able to outweigh the nenefits BP says they will get by employing workers overseas.

Tell us below how you feel about this development in our green industry  in the face of the global warming threat...

Europe and other countries have well established support companies for Solar cell industry. Australian plant is a baby production facility without right infrastructure. Lack of Govt commitment is one major factor. Look at Singapore, Taiwan etc. Goodby to another Hi-Tech prduction.

I can't believe it another company moving overseas, this country is an absolute joke, does the government just want to import!Solar energy should be a thriving industry here as I believe we lead the world in research and technology.

It's absolutely crazy that yet another company has to move it's manufacturing operations overseas! The Australian Government should be encouraging manufacturing and technologies that are green - and should be investing in them too! With Australia's climate solar is a perfect match.

Let's support an australian company who has a better solar product based in Adelaide- SunCube. Per unit, it cost $1980 plus installation and it tracks the sun, collecting more energy per panel.Could we get the sunrise team to lobby the government to allow this product to qualify for the solar rebate

i can't believe this govt. would allow this company to leave our shores, do they think more about our imports than our own aussie
made products.

Solar Energy is not capable of solving the energy problems. I would be better to use resources to develop a technology that can solve the energy problems.

If Solar was cheap I'd have it yesterday solar to run your complete house anything over back into the main grid, but way to expensive governments should be encouraging all of us to have rebates keep the technology here and wind power also, governments get your head out of the sand, disgusting

Don't be silly, Suncube is a total scam.
The "inventor" Greg Watson is a notorious conman.
This is worse than FirePower.
Google "suncube scam" to find the truth.
Have fun

Kurt Fearnley: I was relief teaching in Blayney when I met Kurt as a young school boy. The first thing that struck me was his smile and contagious positive outlook at all times. I see nothing has changed with this outstanding Australian. Although I never saw him again, it is a testament to the power of his personality that I have not forgotten him more than 15 years later.
