Storm-battered SE Qld wakes to more damage

Nov 20 07:46am

Severe storms are predicted to hit Brisbane this evening, three days after storms devastated parts of south-east Queensland.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that the severe thunderstorms are expected to bring damaging winds and large hailstones.

The storms, moving from the west are expected to hit parts of Brisbane city, Lockyer Valley, Ipswich, Southern Downs and Somerset.

Residents in Brisbane's storm-ravaged suburbs are being urged to check that tarpaulins are secure in case there is more bad weather.

Lord Mayor Campbell Newman says loose tarps could cause more problems.

"People need to ensure that tarps are properly fixed," he said.

The destruction is sad, but what about those who live just 1-2 hours west who have access to dams which total 10% fullness????? Sometimes we need to make a sacrifice in order to receive (and appreciate) rewards (aka water in dams).

Kurt Fearnley: I was relief teaching in Blayney when I met Kurt as a young school boy. The first thing that struck me was his smile and contagious positive outlook at all times. I see nothing has changed with this outstanding Australian. Although I never saw him again, it is a testament to the power of his personality that I have not forgotten him more than 15 years later.
