How much will you spend on Christmas?

Nov 20 07:37am

Presents for young kids and teenagers aren't what they used to be. Some parents are spending up to $500 per child - despite the tough economic times.

Interest rates together with high costs of fuel and food means the festive season will push some families to the limit.

Whats's the story in your household? How much will you be spending this Christmas? Tell us below...

$200 does my husband & myself, our son and all 8 of our nieces and nephews. Why spend so much. Its taking away from the real meaning of Christmas!!

Yes its not the gift but the thought we have small family but would much rather have quality time with out family then spend hundred of dollars on presents, Xmas is for giving and sharing, not through the hip pocket.

We will be spending about $550. That's buying gifts for 25 people! My whole family has a $20 limit. So many people I know go into debt to 'afford' xmas, to me that defeats the point. We put away $10 a week for the whole year so there is no stress at xmas time.

I spend $300 on 3 children, it includes individual presents and maybe 1 or 2 family presents that we can all enjoy together. This year though we bought a swimming pool so this year they're just getting a few pool toys. All done without getting into debt, savings and lay-by's.

Kurt Fearnley: I was relief teaching in Blayney when I met Kurt as a young school boy. The first thing that struck me was his smile and contagious positive outlook at all times. I see nothing has changed with this outstanding Australian. Although I never saw him again, it is a testament to the power of his personality that I have not forgotten him more than 15 years later.
