Save the males?

Nov 18 08:04am

There is concern Australian men are losing their manliness through gym-time, personal hygiene, facial 'manscaping' and some overly precious self-image concerns.

Is the Australian man still able to known as a burly guy who is helpful, rough and cares about others as much as himself?

Tell us below if you know a man who is keeping the Aussie bloke dream alive, or one that isn't!

From the soapbox:

From SMS: So men have gone soft... Serves them right for listening to women in the first place. Kymbo South Australia

From SMS: My man is an 'aussie bloke' he wears the footy shorts, navy chesty bonds, flanny and black pluggers and drinks beer like there is no tomorrow, listens to ac/dc and wont eat quiche cos its not a man's food and I love it I wouldnt want him any other way thats what attracted me to him!

From SMS:  My boyfriend crosses his legs like a lady in public. I have to constantly remind him he's a bloke! And yes, he's the cheese platters guy. He cleans the shower and constantly arranges our house to perfection.

My partner used to do weights, work out with punching bags, and all the manly stuff but since we had kids, he hasn't done any of those work outs. Instead, he's starting to shave his pubic hair, concentrating on his appearance, his hair, facial conditions and even his skin color, not wanting sun tan

The aussie bread has been dying for 80 years & its being led by Micky Mouse. After all he's hardly a rough tough bloke unlike Donald. hehehe

I have been married to a great aussie bloke for nearly 30 years, and I would not change a thing about him. He helps out with the housework on the weekends as we both work full time, but he also love the odd beer and has the big shed out the back, give me the great aussie bloke anytime

I felt quite sad this morning when I saw this being discussed... I thought this society was moving on from assigning gender roles to males and females - or at least were attempting to. But to put down a male for attending scrapbooking instead of drinking at the pub? Such a shame!

Most or a lot of the comments revolve around body image and behaviour, while I agree it is something that gives a measure of comparison it ignores the fact that everyone wears a mask, it is what a person has inside that defines him as a man not a particular cultural ritual he acts out.

Have you seen what a sydney beer company have been doing? Youtube SAVE THE MALES, Barons Brewing. They're saving poor saps that have lost their way... losing their masculinity to facial treatments and chest waxes.... funny stuff.
