Should sexy ads be banned?

Oct 12 06:58pm

Sex is used to sell everything from yoghurt to mobile phones.

The James Boag ad (left) was just one controversial ad that received many complaints when used in Australia.

To put an end to the use of sex in explicit or inappropriate ways, members of the Catholic Church are organising a petition to get sexual images on billboards removed.

The Church says material such as the new Peter Alexander magazine, which has nude men hugging girls in pyjamas, is too offensive.

Catholics are hoping to get 10,000 signatures and get sexual images on billboards banned.

Should the sexiest ads be banned? And which ads do you find most offensive? Tell us below...

Recently in Myers we were confronted ahead of the down elevator by a photo about 5 ft. square of the lower body of a girl in a white bikini advertising Biotherm cosmetics, shot taken from floor level, looking up the legs, from the back, legs apart; who thinks this acceptably advertises cosmetics?

Common sense says that these ads breed lack of respect for women. Why do we need them? A product sells itself. Unless of course its a crappy product which needs voyeurism to sell itself. Pretty pathetic then, isn't it? When will we respect ourselves and each other enough to reject this nonsense?

Of course they shouldn't but they will because the Christains will comp;lain about it. Mabye they need to focus on looking for pedos in there ranks iinstead of foc using on ads.

This is about my right to be watching tv or driving down the street without being confronted with inappropriate ads. These days you can't watch anything without there being some form of sexual connotation. The restrictions do need to be tightened.

I agree fully with Zarrakin, if it was woman you never hear complaints but as the nudity is men oh my god its a big deal so to the catholic church stop the filth scattered every where we look, of nude woman, then you can complain about this ad.

here we go again lets start thinking for ourselves if its that bad then don't look at it and if you have kids in car don't make a big thing of it they probably won't even notice and i bet if it had a little boy up there the catholic church wouldn't be complaining

Kurt Fearnley: I was relief teaching in Blayney when I met Kurt as a young school boy. The first thing that struck me was his smile and contagious positive outlook at all times. I see nothing has changed with this outstanding Australian. Although I never saw him again, it is a testament to the power of his personality that I have not forgotten him more than 15 years later.
