Should sexy ads be banned?

Oct 12 06:58pm

Sex is used to sell everything from yoghurt to mobile phones.

The James Boag ad (left) was just one controversial ad that received many complaints when used in Australia.

To put an end to the use of sex in explicit or inappropriate ways, members of the Catholic Church are organising a petition to get sexual images on billboards removed.

The Church says material such as the new Peter Alexander magazine, which has nude men hugging girls in pyjamas, is too offensive.

Catholics are hoping to get 10,000 signatures and get sexual images on billboards banned.

Should the sexiest ads be banned? And which ads do you find most offensive? Tell us below...

Another example of religion trying to impose its morality on every, regardless of whether we share that morality. They're one of the largest religios groups in the world, they should stop acting like victims.

This advertising is being done because it works. If it didn't work then advertisers would not waste a cent doing it.

There are plenty of safeguards related to advertising - nudity is not the enemy. Its ridiculous, an educated nation shouldn't fear against the human form - danger lies in politicians with weak policies and hysterical religious groups using media and arts as the easy go-to culprit for societies ills.

Freedom of speech on an equal basis. If the Catholic church is free to condemn the advertising, then the advertisers are just as free to continue to do it. If the advertisers are to be gagged, then so is the church. Free speech is for everyone, not just for those whose opinions with which you agree.
